Fintech Venture Day, Madrid: meeting the Spanish fintech community

¡Hola Madrid!

Or at least ¡Hola! ahead of our trip over to Spain on Thursday, when we’ll be hosting our second Fintech Venture Day with our partners IE Business School and Accenture. The first, held in Tel Aviv last month, was a huge success – we met the best and brightest of the Israeli fintech community, with innovative payments startup PayKey and its CEO Daniel Peled emerging as winners of our inaugural Pitch Slam competition.

We’re looking forward to repeating this success with our next event in Madrid on Thursday 14th April, when we’ll be running our second Fintech Venture Day Pitch Slam – we’ve already narrowed down an impressive long list of entries to five promising finalists:

  • Capital Ahora – a crowdlending platform – Spain
  • FirePCI – a cloud based service to protect personal identity data – Belarus
  • Index Capital – an automated investment manager – Spain
  • Pich – an API provider that connects to banking infrastructure – Spain
  • Wetech – bank issued wearables for payment technology – Spain

The Pitch Slam competition gives local startups the opportunity to present their idea to an expert panel of judges. The winner at each location then gets access to a range of benefits and expertise offered by each of the sponsors.

If you’re a Spanish fintech and keen to get involved, there’s still time to sign up here. As well as the InnoVentures team (represented by Mariano and Emilio), you’ll get a chance to meet Banco Santander’s new Head of Innovation: Peter Jackson. We’re also excited to hear more on the banking and fintech landscapes from our speakers Javier Torremochas (Founding Partner at Kibo Ventures) and Shawn Miles (Executive VP at Mastercard), as well as experts from our partners, IE Business School and Accenture.

Fintech Venture Days are a joint initiative between Santander InnoVentures, IE Business School and Accenture. Part conference, part competition, our aim is to bring together local stakeholders to explore the issues faced by startups in fintech.

The final instalment of the initiative will take place in Sao Paulo in May – watch this space for confirmation of the date and venue.
